Is Abu Dhabi more conservative than Dubai?
Where do the two emirates draw the line? Trunks? Bikinis? Hand holding? Kissing?

Yes, it is more strict on the surface but less consistent. Eg - you can buy booze in the liquor stores without a license, get off traffic offences with very low-grade wasta etc.

I would say YES definately. AD is not as geared (or welcoming I feel) towards tourists, expats and outsiders as Dubai is.

Every time I'm in AD (live in Al Ain) I notice people dressed immodestly going about their business. I don't think twice about wearing shorts in Dubai but avoid doing so in AD. Then when I get there and everyone else is wearing shorts and skirts I feel foolish. AD is supposed to be more strict, but I honestly don't see it.
No kissing in public anywhere in the UAE.

Indeed many people people carpeted from head to toe are quite disgustingly immodest. Naked people tend to be a bit more relaxed as most have little to brag about except their biology

Re: Is Abu Dhabi more conservative than Dubai?
They did stop when an Arab family arrived... and I witnessed something I, literally, couldn't believe.
The man took off his suit, and was left parading in his skimpy trunks. He wades into the water as though he is Daniel Craig playing Bond. I thought to myself "Look at her, just sitting on the bench. Taking off her shoes, she must feel quite restricted in that thing if she isn't allowed to take it off to go swimming. How sad that she will just had to dip her feet in".
There she goes, walking into the shallow surf of the sea... still walking... still going. Now she's splashing around with the full hijab/niqab/burqa (unfortunately I don't know the difference of them, yet). I was rather amazed, but the two of them seemed to be having a good time though.
