Re: Abu Dhabi apartments - Al Ain building, WTC, Wave Tower...
Two bed for me is around 170k, 3 bed around 230k so I'd be paying an extra 60k for a room I don't need, other than for when family or friends visit.
Given the choice of a 2 bed somewhere fantastic or a 3 bed somewhere less good (though still nice) I feel the 2 bed option winning.
For the first year the maid's room is a spare room. After that if wife works and we get a maid then we can just move kid into our room when guests come.
Think I'd rather spend the difference on a good annual holiday and teach sproglet how to ski.

And 60k is a big difference.

Even if you pay a live in maid very well and cover visa costs and flights you've probably got 18-24 months of a maid one year of empty bedroom.

Yeah. But dont need that much space, and I'd rather be city centre with everything on our doorstep.

IF you want city amenities right at your doorstep then the WTC is obviously the answer.
But the resort pull of Saadiyat would be hard to ignore
In either location, find out who has to pay the AC charges. At all of Reem the tenant pays, most of the island, the landlord pays. Not sure about Saadiyat or WTC itself. And yes, it can add up to a hefty amount.

Re: Abu Dhabi apartments - Al Ain building, WTC, Wave Tower...
After starting work here in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago I'm still trying to decide where to live. Saadiyat is definitely an attraction - but I'd want my wife to see it first.
Having been in hotel now for a few weeks I'm actually happy enough to stay in a hotel a little longer, and then choose where to live when my wife comes out and joins me in April.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel or apartment-hotel, ideally middle of Corniche area (Al Markizayeh West)?

Booking.com?
Just walk around. There's many, same-same for the most part. My company put people up at Al Maha Arjaan by Rotana.

Well I have now moved out of the (dry) Rotana Khaliya palace hotel into the Courtyard Marriott in World Trade Centre.
It's a lovely hotel. New, easy-going and with a decent (though fairly quiet) rooftop bar. There's a friendly cafe downstairs that also does the room service food and the prices are sensible, like 40 AED for a massive club sandwich with chips. Overall I really like it here!
But anyway, I still need to decide where to live when I drag myself out of the comfort of having everything done for me. Wife + baby moves here end of May so will need a place by then.
My shortlist remains Al Ain Tower and WTC Apartments.
For me:
Al Ain Tower Pros: Great balcony! Nice area with shops. Not above a mall so would force me to explore more.
WTC Apartment Pros: More modern. Nicer kitchen (with all goods supplied). WTC mall. Walkeable to work so I don't need a car for now.
Help me decide!
Does anyone here live in either of these buildings?

WTC windows don't open.
There are days when you wished you could fling open the windows and balcony door and let the fresh air fill up the apartment.
It's nice. It's what I did all the time in Dubai. Except for the bits when it was blistering hot or too cold or too dusty or rainy

I wouldn't limit your selection based on being in the center of town. Come the summer months walking even short distances will be unbearable. I also find walking anywhere in Abu Dhabi difficult, due to uneven pavements, too much street furniture and a traffic system that places very little importance on pedestrians. Personally I would look at quality places on Reem such as Beach Towers and Sun & Sky.
Disagree about not using a balcony, they are great between November and March, nothing better than sitting out in the morning with a coffee
