He sounds a lot like me. Climbed out of the gutter, but the shoelaces drag through it occasionally.

I was thinking of fuerteventura, not the other all-inclusive rat holes.

Dunno where I'm going to retire to when the time comes

Must say none of the Spanish islands appeal to me.

Maybe New Zealand if they'll have me.

That's the one I've been to. It's no different. Just embrace it.

Dad's got simple pleasures, he wants an occasional fry up. Half decent beer, good wine available and a selection of restaurants who know how to cook potatoes properly.

I am a little bit amazed at the long hours you guys mentioned
more than 9 hours sounds a bit on the excessive side .

In Oman , it is unusual to work more than 8 hours a day five days a week .
I absolutely do nothing on weekends even with the overtime pay

sometimes I do the "late arrival and early departure" thing which is just awesome , many coffee breaks , bathroom breaks and a lunch break
( it does not count if I don't leave the office so I do it al desko ) .

However I am surprised that if you are in a six-figure salary in Canada you are doing 40 hours. I have worked in Europe and the US and I have never done "40 hours week" (no matter what my contract says) and I don't know a single person that in "professional" jobs (consulting, finance, law, construction) do 40 hours a week (unless you are in a boring back-office or administrative position)... in fact I am sure most of them would sign for a 48 hour week!

If you work 40 hours a week and earn 6-figures in Canada, do not even think about the Middle East.

Probably Lebanese, talk about entitlement.
