I've just been told that it is currently taking 3-6 months to get a residency visa for the UAE.

I know Miss Eck pointed out that it takes about 5 weeks to get one, so is there anything I could get them to follow up on to speed it up a bit (well considerably)?

Don't fancy being stuck on my own for so long without the family.

The family can come out on a normal tourist visa...so you don't need to be apart even for a day.

Thanks. But doesn't this cause problems with it comes to do the visa run? Presumably then I could do the run whilst the family remains in the UAE on tourist visas?

There is a new law on visa runs, not sure exactly what, but worth checking out.

I read that...One is only able to do 2 runs consecutively...Then be out of the country for a month,then do it all over again...

You might be able to get it quicker if you by property?
Is the 3-6months due to a backlog with the UAE Residency dept, or do you think it might be the company being slow?

I wasn't really planning on buying proerty immediately. I would like to see how things pan out, one step at a time.

No idea why it is taking so long. I guess they can only go as fast as they can.

Depends on who you work for, I got mine within 2 weeks.

I guess this must be the critical factor, I arrived on Tuesday afternoon, went to get my blood test and chest x-ray on wednesday and had the residency visa in my passport on Thursday. I guess the comapny I am working for have some connections?

in my experience here, replace sometimes with 'normally' or 'usually'
