2k to DEWA for A/C
Hi everyone
As you know looking again for apartment , the agent today said 1k deposit for DEWA which i knew about then mentioned 2k deposit A/C, he couldn't really explain to me so i could understand, do you know what he is talking about?, He said that I would get monthly bills for DEWA then bill for A/C, was thinking this maybe had nothing to do with DEWA but was a landlord thing? How does the A/C situation work costwise in an apartment block? is the cost spread amongst however many apartments or does each apt have its own A/C or heat pump system?

our AC is included in the rent, but I would imagine that landlords are trying to stuff you extra on that arrangement now 1000 dhs I assume is your deposit at DEWA, and 2000 dhs annually for AC costs in the apartment, it must have a central AC. Hope this helps.

1,000 Dhs is the standard DEWA deposit for an apartment, paid directly to them. Don't loose the receipt or you will never get it back.
Some (usually newer) apartment blocks have a separate meter for each apartment for the chilled water for the A/C even though it is chilled centrally. You then get a bill from the building management every month for the amount of chilled water you use, rather than just having it added on to the maintenance charge. A 2,000Dhs deposit for this seems a bit steep though.
The Green Community, I believe, works on this system so maybe somebody from out there could tell us if they have to hand over deposits for the chilled water?

If it's just a deposit, you should be able to get it back though...?

There are better things to do with 2,000Dhs than have it tied up in deposits though. I reckon by the time I leave Dubai I won't need a pension- I'll be able to retire on all the money I get back in deposits- if I haven't lost the receipts.
