Default 1st day in Dubai

As the title says, it's my first day in Duabi. I've had no sleep for nearly 40 hours due to the flight etc and I now wondering was it all worth it. I am sat here thinking- what can I do at this very moment. Tv is crap as can't get a package, can only stay on internet for an hour . DOes it get easier- will I start to enjoy it more?
Haven't started work yet but have met lots of people who are all very friendly.
I think I just want reassurance that everyone feels like this at some point and it's not just me!!!

It will get better. Once you are settled at work and have sussed out the town, you will feel better.

A good night's sleep will also help!

I've been here 3 days and loving every second so far. I've mainly stayed at our friend's house, but did spend one day at MOE, took the kids to play in the snow park, had lunch, walked around the shops. I'm just enjoying going to get groceries in a new place. Tonight we sampled some of the local pastries and antipasto for dinner. My daughter didn't like the haloumi I got, but I'm sure I'll find one she likes.

Have a nice long sleep and you'll feel better I'm sure.

Hi Rachyp,

It's called the ME blues or otherwise known as culture shock. My advise? A long shower, some sleep... Then try to make contacts. The ME is either hell on earth or any level of paradise YOU make of it. And this board is full of wacky UK nationals that can lift a spirit in need.

Hey Rachyp - are you feeling better now you've had a couple of nights sleep?

We had to go see a couple of school's with our kids today, it took us nearly two hours driving around in circles to actually find one of them. My husband is driving like he's been here his whole life - I think I aged 10 years today. I chatted to another couple of ladies at a school who were in their first couple of days here and they too were finding it all a bit extreme.

Feeling much more settled now thanks all!!!

Was just culture shock and homesickness etc- got over it all by about the 3rd day here.
Have settled into the laid back/manic lifestyle now but would kill for a car!!!!!! Few more weeks perhaps!!!

the first 3 months or so can be a pain in the arse, stressful and it can be a real culture shock - you'll meet nice people, find little cool places and you'll start to learn about Dubai,

I've been here 7 months now and I absolutely love it, I had reservations and a few problems but am all settled now and its great.
