Default 18 year old - silly question!

Again., forgive me my ignorance on this! We are moving to Abu Dhabi permanently next year and my daughter will be 16 so will then do A levels out there for 2 years. I have been advised that it is fine for her to stay after she is 18 with us, but what would happen re her medical cover through my husband's job? do all the benefits just stop at age 18 for a child?! thanks all.

It might depend on the discretion of the employer - my offspring are covered for medical, travel, etc up to 23, but many firms will have different policies. Have to check with the employer I think?

If I'm wrong, just wait a few seconds - that's all it will take for someone to come on here and shoot me down in flames.........

By law your employer (in Abu Dhabi only) must provide HAAD (Health Authority Abu Dhabi) compliant medical insurance cover for the employee, his wife and up to three children up to the age of 18 years.

There is therefore no legal requirement for the employer to contnue to provide cover for her once she reaches age 18, but the easiest and cheapest option would be for her to stay on the company cover (provided the scheme terms allow for this) and for you to pay the premium. This would be cheaper than setting up an individual policy.

I am not so sure about staying with you after she is 18, my understanding is she needs to be working or in full time Education.
