So I have sent my CV to a fair number of agencies and companies, and got a very small amount of interest.

I was thinking of going over for a week in December, on a big recruitment push to get hired etc.
But how would one go about visiting companies when over there. Surely just walking into the reception area is not the done thing.

I am getting up extra early in a morning to phone a few places each day, just to try and get some names and get my cv sent to actual people. Its tough "networking" on the internet, and a little frustrating.

But I keep the hope alive and if I can make it happen I (we) will get over there in December.

There are a lot of public hols in Dec, National Day (2) , Prophets b'day (1) and Eid (2or3) days all first 2 weeks of Dec so dont come then as it will be a waste of time.

I found this list of public holidays, I take it this means everyone is off work during this period? I've just booked a flight to go over job hunting from the 4th of dec - 17th dec...thinking they don't celebrate xmas over there! sounds like they do just a little early, obviously I need to change my plans!

Early Dec, public sector holiday only? or do the private sector get all those days off too?

everyone get's them, December is a waste of time this year. Unless you have pre arranged appointments I would look at coming in neither now or postponing to the New Year. Many companies are not hiring now - including construction, what line of work are you in?
