[ASK] Job Offer in Dubai...is it good or not...?

Re: [ASK] Job Offer in Dubai...is it good or not...?
Hello everyone. Seems like i missed the night out (any photos or is it all top secret?), not that flying in from Scotland for a night out would have been on the cards anyway.....
right, question, the whole Dubai thing is rearing its head again,
is 35,000 per month + all utilities/villa/health/schooling etc a good deal? I am really confused about what is a good amount to live on in the sand pit and what is average. We want to be able to save a bit of money so if we came we would have a 10 year plan. I would still carry on my business part time brining in approx £2K per month..... so want to know if we are better staying where we are (hubby currently on approx £4K per month but obviously paying bills/travel/mortgage and soon to be school fees etc) or taking the leap and coming over.

ha yes..... well we are still about 12 months away from it (hubby wants to go straight into left hand seat and needs another 900 hours to meet their direct command requirment) but it is becoming much more attractive every day that the weather in the UK stinks..... also we just think our daughter would love it.
So hows you BC?

You have to be careful Lexy there is talk of not taking anymore DEC so wouldn't be good to wait another year to find thats the case!! Also I'm pretty sure these villas will all be full in another 12 months and you might end up in one of the grotty ones we were in before
How are things at Emirates?

Thanks for letting us know.... that is interesting and could change everything. Will speak to DH tonight. DH is currently a training captain with over 7000 hours and there is no way he will go back to the right hand seat for three years, so we will maybe just have to count out Emirates. Other carriers are doing DEC so we will have to explore them.... Where were the grotty villas you were in before?

Hello Lexy - I did create a Facebook group for BE members called
"British Expats in the UAE" last week... About 7 nice people have signed up - but aside from the dubious benefit of seeing some of the faces behind the avatars, there's not a lot of action there.
Feel free to sign up!

Well you know the usual moans and grumbles from the pilots but you know what a whingeing load of old women they are!! What about accelerated command option - my hubby was also TC back in UK, came here as an f/o and almost a year to the day got his command and is now a TC here. Yes it wasn't great for him for the first year but hey its all worked out ok. We were in al bada'a before not far from defence r/about - they weren't too bad i suppose 3 b/rm but no facilities, kids had to play out on the road etc etc - much better up here.
