$400 for housing allowance?
Pardon my naivety but is that enough money for a monthly rent in Dubai?
It sounds more like the average price for a weekly rent....
Unless rent prces go down in some areas. Maybe expats do not live with emiratis or ... there must areas in Dubai where it's not safe....
Please advise.

That's assuming you're looking for a 1bdrm apartment or a sharing situation.

It is pretty mixed anyway. There isn't really any unsafe areas here, except unsafe for traffic. The cheaper areas are cheep cos they are over crowded, no parking noisy traffic. Or other cheap places are miles away from any facilities, but that is changing every day as dubai expands. One cheap place or was cheaper is Mirdif as it was thought to be out of the way but also is directly under the flight path and it is noisy!!! My house shakes!! but its cheap!!! well cheaper than many places.
Good luck and be prepaired for rents going up every day!!!!

So... 400 bux in a "noisy and overcrowded area", do u get a decent place i.e clean and comfortable or would it be more like a box ?

If you are getting USD 400 per week (approx. 1400Dhs) , then you'll be fine, 2yrs ago when I was living in Dubai I paid approx. 3800Dhs per month for a 2 bedroom villa in Mirdiff. You would easily be ableto get a decent flat for 5500Dhs a month. as someone mentioned there are no 'bad' areas in Dubai just busier areas, it depends what you want.

No no therewas this ad for a job ... 1000 base pay plus 15 bux per hour of duty plus 400 bux of housing allowance.
Living in busy areas wouldn't be a pb unless it's noisy as hell and I hate to be bothered whem I'm sleeping
. I was lucky enough to learn arabic in school and in college so I came to become fluent, which I think would help me in case I live with the nationals.

The nationals get free housing in compounded neighborhoods for the most part. They also make more money than you would without actually doing anything. Live in sharjah with the indians and paki's, you might get a rat infested shithole for 1500 dhs per month.
