Who is from Yorkshire?

Re: Who is from Yorkshire?
I hope some of you got to enjoy the Tour de France this weekend, passed right by me in Sheffield. I don't think they expected these hills! I'm ready for some time on the flat when I come out to Ohio in August for 90 days to try out the American life!

I'm from South Yorkshire and I've been here for 40 years. Still enjoy talking with my fellow countrymen/women and look forward to hearing from anyone out there who comes from the U.K.
Look forward to hearing from you.

I went to The Great Yorkshire Show this summer. My God it really is great. It's massive. It has everything. It was the best day out.

North Yorks for me (Middlesbrough), until I was 2 when my parents started off my nomadic life! Returned briefly to boarding school from 14-18 when I went off to Uni and never returned. Parents still live in Marton.

Re: Who is from Yorkshire?
I was born in Wombwell (near Barnsley) and lived there until I joined the WRAF after leaving school. Having been gone for so long, my memories of my old 'stomping grounds' have faded somewhat.
The last time I visited, the old town seemed a lot smaller than it was. Same thing happened when I drove to see my old high school as well. It felt really strange - so small than I remembered it.
One thing I really miss - freshly cooked fish and chips, wrapped in newspaper. A heavenly smell that seemed to permeate the air for miles. Hmmmmmmm.
One thing I didn't miss though - the coal mines and all the dirt and dust that they created. Thank goodness they're closed.
Anyone have any recollections of Wombwell, or surrounding areas?
I'd enjoy hearing from anyone with anything to share.
Cheers everyone!
Anne
