Minnesota anyone?

Is there anyone in MN? I moved up to the Twin Cities (after 16 years in Oklahoma) last June. I had a good time until winter happened. I'd love to make some friends this summer while it's warm enough not to worry about my eyeballs and lung tissue freezing.

USC hubs and I are sorta hoping to relocate back to the UK, but that could be years in the works.

My relatives in Minneapolis always tell me the weather isn't bad but every time I go to visit, it is below 0, it is constantly snowing, or it is sweltering.

This year I went back on April 29th and when the plane landed, it was 34 degrees. When they found out that I actually packed shorts, they giggled. One year I went back for Thanksgiving and the snow was so deep, the plows couldn't keep the roads clear, and a couple years ago, the temperatures were in the high 90s with near 100% humidity.

This year they finally admitted it was a really bad winter and no spring.

My experience exactly: people swore on their grandmothers' graves that the weather wasn't bad... then by March this year they were bordering on apologetic about the winter we just had. 70 inches of snow and insanely cold - couldn't get our newly purchased home to warm up for 6 months. Bit bleak to be honest as I had mobility issues on the ice so I stayed home far too much. Hopefully next winter won't be that bad.

I don't mind the heat much at the moment, having done 23-ish years in FL and OK, but I'm sure I'll adjust and go back to hating being sweaty.

Usually I like the spring, summer (except August), and the fall in Minneapolis especially around Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun with all the beautiful old houses and open space but during the summer, the Minnesota state bird (mosquitos) come out in mass and spoils everything.

Moving to Iowa from Minnesota, so hoping temperatures are, at least, marginally warmer. This winter was nuts.

Last winter was a bad one. Hoping for an easier time this year... but I love living here.

Welcome to Minnesota!

To be fair, it was the worst winter in about 60 years or something. It was my 4th winter in Minnesota, and the first I found it miserable. Summer hasn't been too helpful either this year, with it raining every time my team has practice.
If you are interested in meeting fellow Brits, then there are 2 groups you can look at. One is on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/mplsbrits/?fref=ts
The other is on Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/TC-Brits/
The facebook group has a monthly brunch. We used to go in the early days when we arrived, but don't bother any more. We have made a couple of friends through it, and also through watching the Rugby. I have made most of my friends through playing Aussie Rules, which I also found through Meetup (great resource!)
