Any Other Brits In The Lakewood Ranch Area of Florida?
Hi,
Weve been living in the Lakewood Ranch Area near Sarasota & Bradenton since September 2010 and we just wondered if there are any other Brits living around here apart from ourselves?
My wife and myself are in our 40's and we have two grown up kids, our sons 19 and our daughter has ju.st gone 18
We have met a few British familes but they have now all moved back to the UK!

We are from Oxford in the south, we have just moved from North Carolina where our best friends there were Brits. I had heard that there might be a Brit club on or around Lakewood ranch, do you know anything of it?? Where are you from?

Hi,
Yes there is a brits club here but we havent joined because the typical age group that go to it are a lot older than we are so we never bothered with it.
We are in our 40's and the Brits club is made up of people in the 60+.
We are origianlly from Wakefield near Leeds in west yorkshire.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the heads up on the Brit club, maybe it won't be for us either.
My dads side of the family are from Wakefield and Castleford, I love it up there everyone is so friendly? How long have you been in the US? Which neighborhood on LR do you live on?
Regards
Sue

Hi Sue,
We are actually in River Club, which is right next to Lakewood Ranch but we like it better because we don't have the crazy gated community to go through each time we want to go in or out.
regards
Richard

A Curry! Yes, I love a good curry, but to be honest I havent found any around here that have been any good.
A friend of mine told me about one called "The Gateway To India" down in Sarasota. He said its very good but I havent tried it yet.
We heard that the British Pub on University Parkway has a curry night once a week, so 5 of us (all British) went a few weeks ago just to see what it was like - it was okay, but the rice seemed like it had been boiling all week long because it came as a solid lump!
The funny part here was that 3 of use are originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and the other 2 are originally from Birmingham, and the girl serving us asked if we were all French!!! .....And this was in a British pub!!! .....You couldn't make it up if you tried

Hi David,
Sounds good. Yes I was told about the Gateway by a friend of mine from Essex who lives in Sarasota and he's just told me about it. He said at one point he was going every night!
Drop me a line when you get back from Mexico. Cheers Richard

Hi guys
I know this isn't necessarily the right forum, however I will start a separate thread, but as you are a Lakewood thread your thoughts would be appreciated......
I and my wife plus young family are seriously thinking of moving from England to L Ranch. We love the climate and believe the lifestyle would be great for us. Aside from the process of getting here (visa etc) has the move been all you hoped for ? Any regrets ? Schooling ?
Any thoughts would be gladly received.

Hi Sean,
My regret is that I didn't move years ago.
Unless you buy a business, getting a visa is hard. If you have American relatives then things can be a little easier.
Most English buy a business to live and stay here, which can work for some but its not always ideal.
Regards
Richard
