Hi does anyone here have experience working for BAe in Saudi? What are the perks like? Thinking of applying for a weapons technician post but a mate told me the RSAF and Saudi recruits in general are a ballsache to work with - that was a few years ago though, maybe they are better now?

I spend 17 years working in education and training in KSA. Not, thank God, with RSAF or BAE. The human material you would be working with in these institutions is not of the highest calibre. life in KSA is difficult enough. Working with the saudi military mnakes it unbearable. Only for those truly dedicated to the worship of Mammon.

yep, they're a pain. If it's BAE in Eastern Prov you're looking at, PM me and I'll put you in touch with a mate who teaches there and can tell you the truth. He's been there long enough for the shine to wear off and has good prior experience to make a reasonable judgment.

I work for RSLFAC, so not RSAF, but I imagine it's very similar, and I do have a couple of pals working for BAE, so I've heard what they've got to say.

I would say go with an open mind. Yes, the Saudis can be hard to work with etc, and a PITA, but on the other hand I've met and worked with some great Saudi colleagues.

I don't know what the compound is like in Dharran, but the one in Riyadh is great, although very tight security gets tiresome.

interestingly enough, one of the guys I know who works there told me at the weekend that in a couple of years, all BAE operations in Saudi will be under a Saudi company. They just had to sign something to state their intentions about what they'd do when it changes over.

This has been on / off for the last ten years or so. The 'Saudi" company is registered in Saudi, but is in fact a 100% owned BAE subsidiary . All the staff are the other company are working the same ( almost ) T&C's of the parent company. Shouldn't in reality be that much change - it's more about giving any relative profit to a Saudi company, rather than a big nasty foreign MNC.

I'd second that that's less than 15,000 SAR a month. It's not worth it for the hassles.

There is no "easy money" to be had in KSA. maybe a few decades ag. I write as one who loived and worked there over a perion of 40 years, from 1970 to 2011.
