Hi,
Great forum guys, it is very informative.
I would like to know what is a good salary in Doha, Qatar, for an IT professional with at least 14 years experience. I am an Aussie, and looking to move to Doha, with my family (wife and 2 kids at primary school). My experience is predominantly with large scale systems, and am looking at taking up a senior role, leading a team for a major project. Role is open ended.
I have both an undergraduate Degree and a Masters.
I have been speaking with agents there, and they are offering roles with following:
Base Salary: 22K - 26K,
House Allowance: 12K - 15K,
Car Allowance: 2K,
Full medical,
Education allowance: 25K per child,
Return airfares, once per year.
Annual Leave: 35 days
I was expecting more, in order to uproot my whole family from Australia and change their daily lives.
Could you save anything on such a salary.
Thoughts please, and any other salary ideas for similar IT roles.

What currency are you stating, Aussie $, USD, QAR, Cowrie shells?
Monthly or annually?

I've no idea direct experience in Doha, so will assume it's the same as Dubai - my school fees for a 4 year old are 33k AED (AED=QR) next year. To put this into perspective, for a 15 year old, it's something like 60k.
Sure there are cheaper schools, but there are also way more expensive. Mine's a good middle of the road.

Base salary range seems on the low side - definitely not "good" - if salary range was 32k-36k it would be fine - more than that would be considered good IMO.

On the contrary, there is a yearly performance bonus of 100% of basic salary, just because I'm an Aussie.

If you're not coming for top money don't bother , there's no way you'll get a life experience in Doha , you'll get an experience alright , a frightful one at that compared to Oz !

If you think Qatar is a khazi now, try and imagine what it was like in1982.

#10

I remember it in 1990 so 1982 would have been hell. I remember the "special tea" at the Oasis chinese restaurant and I liked the old souk

When I first arrived there, if you weren't QGPC (QP,now) the two places to live were Ghanim Gardens and Al Nasr Gardens. The old souk was great, but a death-trap if it had ever gone up in flames.

What is the cost to rent or buy a decent 4x4 (SUV) in Doha.
I need to be able to ship a family of 5 around the place.
