Exclamation Taxes & Salaries based on Citizenships?

Hello BEs,

Please help my friend in her decision. I am also curious to know the answers to her question. This is her text:

" I am British-Canadian. I was told that salaries are tax free in Middle East (ME).

1- When applying for jobs in Universities in ME, is it is better to apply as a British-Canadian or as a British only or as a Canadian only?

1-1- in regards to earning the maximum salary based on citizenship.

1-2- in regards to paying taxes in Canada or/and in UK. Are they any implications of paying taxes back home based on citizenship.
Please note that currently, I am living in Canada and what if I leave Canada and move back to the UK.

2- For jobs in international universities in ME, do you have to pay the taxes for the country that the University belongs to. For example, If I work for Texas A&M University in Qatar, will it be subject to American taxes or will it be tax free? "

Thank you very much,

Y

Are you seriously suggesting bthat working for a Swedish company in the Middle East would expose you to liability to Swedish taxation ?

If you are rssident in Canada you may be liable to Canadian taxes. You are no longer resident in the UK so will not be liable for UK tax.

1.1 none
1.2 yes - if you earn in either country before you leave, you will need to consult a tax specialist to determine what you are liable for
2 no. no. paid as "gross" - your tax liabilities are yours to sort out (see point 1.2)

Thanks for replying...

Yes, your example of the Swedish company and Swedish taxation is what I meant in the question.
