My girlfriend wants to resign from her job in the UAE but wants to do it just before her 2 week leave. This way, in theory, she only has to work 2 weeks after coming back from leave. Is this legally acceptable in the UAE? Must the employer agree to the terms in this case?

yes she can, but I am guessing they will just tell her not to bother coming back after her leave

Yes it is legal however, she needs to ensure that in the 2 weeks they can cancel her visa ect and that she receives all her dues, also bear in mind that they have to give her a repatriation ticket to her home country so if she is flying to another destination they are under no obligation to repatriate her.

Well I suppose for her she wouldn't have a problem staying in the country until all the cancellation is done along with obtaining repatriation ticket. She just wants to minimise her time at work whilst maximising her opportunity to get out ASAP and if taking leave, that is one way to do so. She doesn't have any committments there or home and has nice cheap shared acommodation now.

Should be OK if the leave was pre-approved...

She is not owed any repatriation ticket if she will resign from her job...

Is that the case? I thought the right for the ticket is based on the time since the last repatriation; eg. if she's resigning at the end of her contract she should be still etntitled to the ticket?

I am lazy.....I guess your correct but in the companies I have worked for here, if I resigned I was still repatriated..guess my contract overrides the labour law
