Default The regional job market

Has it actually picked up?

I know Dubai is busy - but this is mostly Afghani, Syrian and Egyptian money propping up the residential market... but are there any jobs?

I was recently told by a lawyer that the project and corporate market for legal services in AD is completely dead with only a little bit of life in Dubai. I also just heard about a big 4 partner being given his packing orders.

This doesn't translate to what I'm seeing with people moving to Dubai etc.

So what is the deal?

I was wondering about this. We've got 5 new families in our little compound, so people are being offered jobs and coming. We have two new arrivals in my daughter's class. Don't know the sectors but there is definitely life in the economy somewhere...

Exactly... also though, we have had a few departures to South Africa (Oil and Construction) so I guess that is a busy place.

I know the power sector (nuclear) is hiring and the bigger financial players. Construction still seems to be under pressure and I would dearly love to know what the penalty the guys in charge of the Salaam st tunnel are paying.

Kuwait is slowly moving - although the construction industry here is booming (residential) - however with 50% of residential places which are empty that doesnt mean a lot !!

I have noticed more financial roles coming up (i.e. more agents asking if you want to move) within the region - however the salaries are lower than the last 5 years by 30-40% !

We just recruited a bunch of people, reflecting about 20% of the office size. A construction lawyer friend of mine in AD seems to be working flat out.

Credit Suisse moving to Qatar.

GE-Mubadala, CEO given the boot recently too. On the back of that miserable JV that was clearly always going to struggle.

A JV with Qataris was always doomed to failure. Lots of money, no effing sense....
