Recruitment Agencies - Medical Professionals?

Afternoon Bored!

My wife's cousin is coming over for a few months to see if she can pick-up a job. She's a newly graduated psychologist. I had a look in on the forum wiki links, however it doesn't have much in the way of info on the medical profession.

Can anyone recommend agencies that specialise in filling medical positions or does it make more sense to approach individual hospitals directly? I assume the fact she is recently graduated may well count against her here?

Any other tips to assist her job hunting would be appreciated!

There should be a huge and flourishing psychiatry sector in the UAE. But oddly enough there doesn't seem to be one that I'm aware of... bit of a shame as no place needs it as much as the UAE, methinks.

Hang on though, Psychologist is not, per se, a "medical" qualification. Many if not most people with psychology degrees end up with non-medical careers (my brother being a case in point). HR is a common avenue, as is working in Marketing and doing anything that involves human behaviour (opinion polls, focus group testing etc.). A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor with training to handle mental health issues - and even then I'm not sure how well established international standards are for qualifications in that field, and especially in this region where that field is subject to all sorts of cultural constraints and suspicion.

I guess somebody with a psychology degree could have training in specific relevant techniques or practices like counselling. But that seems unlikely for a fresh graduate. I would think they are likely going to have to find somewhere to acquire those skills, like a medical practice willing to take them on and develop them.

Like in many fields, Dubai/UAE/Gulf seems like it might be a tough place to start a career in psychology....?

existing Psychiatrists here probably just prescribe paracetamol. Seems to be the cure all
