We fired our maid recently. She makes my sandwiches for lunch and she put Branson pickle on my smoked salmon roll. Enough's enough. I have to cope with making my own sangers now. Ooooh the expat drama..

Serious dosh lifestyle? Either mafia, or on the never-never.

Those legitimately earning serious dosh tend not to flaunt - they are the ones that pay off the mortgage, put down some pension savings, have nice not gaudy clothes, and have very expensive holidays.

All forgivable if she still polishes the taps, in my opinion.

So i have been offered 36,000 AED per month, 2 flights home for my wife and I, 80% school fees paid (no kids yet though), medical for my wife and I. The wage includes housing allowance.

Is this a good salary for my wife and I to live off? She will start working when she gets here so taking he out of the equation is 36,000AED a good salary? I have 6 years experience in the IT industry.

Any help would be great as we have a good standard of living here and want to ensure we maintain that over there.
In IT, this is one of the better offers you will get with only 6 years experience. Most IT staff come from Indian on significantly lower packages. You'll be fine on this salary. You certainly won't live the bubbly and salmon brunches every Friday, Porsche Cayenne in the carport, villa with pool lifestyle, but you'll still have a pretty good lifestyle. You'll probably live in an appartment rather than villa, you have another 6+ years (5 yrs + cooking time) before you need school fees (most employers will not pay nursery fees), by which stage you will know if you can afford to live how you want to.

If it pays better than at home, what's to stop you?

My initial package when I arrived here was 26,333 AED a month! (18k p/month and 100k upfront for the housing). My wife was working in real estate on a commission only basis (monthly salary was ranging from 5-15k a month). We were saving and having an enjoyable lifestyle on that.

You'll be fine on 36k, anything your wife can bring to the table is a bonus, however her reason for working should be to remain sane as Millhouse pointed out.

Go for it.

Somewhere near the top if you include all the expats

Somewhere in the middle if you include only the western ones.

With that sort of precision is just as well you're not responsible for redistributing the world's wealth...
