Default Negotiating a female EFL teacher salary

I am negotiating a salary for a teaching job at a university in Saudi. The agency I applied through offered me a low salary well below what the university was offering to applicants who applied directly to them. As luckily I was aware of this as i knew someone who directly applied was offered £25000this person isn't even adequately certified for the role.

The university is very desperate at this stage, the agent has got back to me and said he mentioned the issue I have with the salary to the university. He said they want to interview me.

I have 5 years of experience, the CELTA and an MA in Applied linguistics and Tesol. I want to negotiate a good salary, preferably £3000 GBP a month.

I will be giving up so much and I have already started a job here as I was waiting weeks for the agent to get back to me. Do you think i should push for £3000 a month? I would be willing to give up my life here and get on a plane for that much as well its easy to get a £25000 job here. Should i negotiate the salary with the agent or just speak directly to the university? Am i right to be shrewd? I have also noticed how Male EFL teachers get paid alot more than female teachers. Doesn't a women work just as hard as a man? Don't we deserve a high salary as the job is just as demanding for a woman.

I would really like your feedback on this please.

Thanks

These views are perfectly normal and understandable (and agreeable) in the real world.

However, I suggest that you either drop this silly notion of equality or give up on the whole idea of working in Saudi. You are not, and never will, be equal in the Magic Kingdom...!

As for salary, take what you are earning now and double it - Saudi isn't a nice place.

Oh, and deal direct and try and cut the agent out as much as possible - there are only interested in one thing and it is not your salary.

You are not shrewd if you are still'Q' parity in male/female salaries.

I feel like I'm being usurped. Millhouse, have you tried Eugenie's Room at the Marriott yet, and then stroll down the stairs for a quick roll of the dice in the Omar Khayyam Casino? Unmissable.

nah, not been able to this trip. Been somewhat busy... was just literally locked in a room with a lawyer and told to 'fix it'.

We collectively agreed that we should do this back in Dubai and I'm on the flight out of here... back on Sunday so will give it a go next week if they don't handcuff me to a radiator.
