Hi all i am new here, i am looking for work in Dubai as estimator/quantity surveyor i have looked on job boards found lots of jobs apply and dont here a thing, been looking for a few weeks now. i am HND/HNC Qualified and 11 years experience in this work. can any one point me in right direction or let me know the best thing for me to do to find a job out there!!

lol tried that one!! there alot of people looking at the moment out there who are surveyors like me. I think i need to try get in direct with employers! any one out there work in simular line as me where they may need surveyors?????????

Not to be the bearer of bad news but there are a couple of things you should know about the nuts and bolts work of quantity surveying or estimating (from my experience);

usually this is always carried out by asians as they will do this kind of work at a low pay, unless you are very specialised.
managing surveyor is what you should aim for but you should be degree qualified
try aim for maybe cost planners or similar type of project management companies you may have a better chance with your background
also there are a lot of guys with middle east experience out here looking for work.

but get your cv out there to the recruitment agencies and you could be lucky and network with anyone you know here already

I know a few Western QS's who have moved from the UAE due to lack of suitable vacancies - Australia seems to be the place at the moment. Why do you want to come to UAE?

I have got Some friends who are moving to dubai, that why i was looking here Australia is another option but would like to try middle east first! Do you know of any firms in oz or dubai who may be looking for some one like me??
