Default Job offer in Abu Dhabi - please advise

Hi All,

It's been more than 12 years now since I joined the British expat forums. Back then I received some amazing advice for my move to Australia.
So after 12 years it's time for us to start a new adventure in the Middle East and I would really appreciate some advice regarding a job offer in Abu Dhabi.

I have been offered a package of 53800 AED per month all inclusive to work in a hospital in AD. I did some research on the expenses like school, houses, groceries etc and it comes up to 35k - 40k AED to maintain a similar lifestyle to Australia. That doesn't leave me with much savings.

I am currently getting a package of approximately 200k AUD per year. Not sure if the package offered for Abu Dhabi is worth moving the family over.

We are a family of 4, kids aged 10 and 5. So looking at schools with British curriculum like Cranleigh, Brighton or Repton. Also I am looking for apartments near the corniche downtown area where all the action is.

It's a very difficult decision for us since the life in Australia is great too but after being stuck in the most locked down city in the world (Melbourne). I need some excitement in the life to improve the overall mental health and UAE life might give us our spark back.

Given your circumstances I would lean heavily to staying in Melbourne.

Having been locked out of Sydney for the past 9 months was not a barrel of laughs and the environment in Aus is much better for my wife and kids who have moved back.

Out of the budget, not forget about travel costs. You’ll be wanting to get out of the region too. On the tax front as, there are new Australian tax residency rules which could also make life a lot harder.
