Default Job move Dubai to Saudi - crazy or not?

Outside chance of a promotion, new company, around £500 per month increase, better job.

Current job is in Dubai, which is going very well, new job would be in Saudi (Riyadh).

I have lived in Riyadh before, so know the score pretty well.

Would it be crazy to move?

If you want/need the extra money, why not. I guess if there was a guarantee of career progression as well that would make it more attractive.

Saudi is not my cup of tea, but having been there you know the score!

Go for it.

Dubai may have a better 'lifestyle' (but for how much longer??), but work-wise the Saudis are way ahead of the Emiratis (or anyone else in the region) in terms of professionalism and work ethic. (I'm assuming you'll be working directly with the locals?)

I spent 11 years there, and will probably do so again at some point.

And the 'strictly Islamic' thing is overstated anyway............

and you will also actually be more than 500 squidlies better off because you will spend so much less. So if you want to stash some cash go for it. It's an interesting experience.

If I was in your position, I would probably go but my wife (who survived several years in Jeddah) would undoubtedly refuse. At my age, though, it might be our last opportunity to earn some retirement funds.

This is also part of my dilemma. My very patient wife who has followed me through 3 countries, including Saudi, is hesitant.

How about buying an appartment in Cyprus, installing your patient and hopefully grateful wife there, while you work in KSA and visit her.
