Jeddah work for women ?
Hi everyone - I'm new to the forum so please be gentle. My other half has now been in Bahrain for 10 days with his new job and I am hoping to join him in a few months when he gets all the paperwork sorted.
At the moment he is travelling between Jeddah and Bahrain and its looking like he will be permanently based in Jeddah in the near future - which I'm guessing is going to be a problem with me wanting to work.
In the UK I am a Health/Safety/environment Construction Specialist for the railways - not a job suitable for women in saudi ?
I am more than happy to do secreterial work or admin to get by - but my other half tells me even this is not likely ?
I have had a good look for this topic - so dont all jump down my throat - just give me a good steer on what I can and cant do for work.
Thanks

It's not going to be easy.
However, there is railway and metro construction in the offing/underway (hard to judge the exact status from the PR news articles) in the Jeddah/Makkah/Medinah triangle. Other issue, of course, is that if you are non-Muslim, Makkah and parts of Medinah are off limits.
Mainly Chinese contractors (somehow their Chinese workforce is exempt) - you would have some fun!!!
Bahrain would be much better - I recall the Roads Directorate there had a very capable Lebanese women in a senior engineering position. However, in Saudi I have never met a woman in any construction role other than support staff - HR etc.
The whole issue out here is the need for sponsorship and visas for employment, and the unfortunate very second class status of women.

Yes , I have my NEBOSh Cert, NEBOSH Construction cert and have just completed my final paper for my NEBOSH Diploma - I also have a good 10 years experience in the rail industry.
My other half already is working on the Haramain railway - so maybe that will help.
It was mainly the question whether as a woman in saudi- I could hold such a role ?

From a womans point of view your best bet would be with an international contractor on a major rail project , ie Doha Metro project , Abu Dhabi - Habshan.
Al Habtoor / Leighton/ John Holland JV are heavily recruiting for rail personnel throughout the Gulf.

Co-incidentally, I believe that ALBA - the worlds largest aluminium processor - located in Bahrain has, not surprisingly, an obsession with HS&E and other good causes too. Mainly run by women.
