Rhys
have you really asked yourself why on Earth you want to go and work in Afghanistan ?
Have you lost the will to live ? Has your wife/girlfriend done a runner ? Is Wales really as sh*t as I think it is ? Has all that rain, grey skies and 6 quid for a packet of smokes all become so much of a ball ache that Afghanistan appears better ?
A better bet if any of the above is true is to join the French Foreign Legion. Head to Marsais and sign up for 5 years by which time you have forgotten whatever it is that has p*ssed you off and you can return to the valleys with a new language skill and your head still attached to your neck
Find some inner calm dude

Just liked the country itself. I know it's abit dangerous but it's better than being stuck in a crap dead end job in the middle of a construction site somewhere.

gosh... that site must really suck.
Anyhow, whatever floats your boat. I only ask why you feel the need to ask our opinion on the matter. I've heard Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, Syria and Iran are quite nice and exciting too at the moment. You won't like Dubai - it's a big construction site.

Don't be too quick to knock Oman - we'll be moving there soon and have no hesitation about doing so.
With reference to the recent unrest in Shinas just across the border from Hatta, the riots in Sohar (and other more peaceful demonstrations in Salalah and Muscat) there have also been accusations that Emiratis have been involved, particularly in the riots in Sohar.
Look at this blog (scroll down to Feb 2) and make of it what you will.

You'll probably need a VPN to read Muscat Confidential's contribution.

Re: i want to work in afghanistan
You want to work in something related to security - providing logistics services for a security project in Afghanistan? That's what most of the ex-army people do.
Check up the following companies: Blackwater, Olive Group, Falcon, Global Strategies Group. They provide a lot of the security for nonprofits, commercial clients and foreign government aid/reconstruction projects. Google them online and their websites should tell you what you need to do to work on one of their projects. Keep in mind it'll be strictly on an independent contractor basis and for the duration of a project only, not permanent employment.

You may also want to check DevEx and relief web and join some ex-military linkedin groups - they are always advertising for the type of jobs you seem to be looking for:
