Hi,

Just wondering if Hyder is a good employer?

Possible job offer in Doha.

Looks tempting.

Family planning on staying at home initially.

Cheers and hope you are enjoying the sunshine.

A low quality low cost stack it high sell it cheap consultant. They compete with other large international consultants to provide a least cost service, which is the only way to be succesful in Qatar. You should have no prblem with their employment conditions, but be prepared for much lower standards than in UK.

Qr 40000 all in is not enough for you to bring your family out here.

To the OP Hyder are ok, the core group, but they hire and fire for new projects outside of their more permanent staff etc so the quality can vary wildly in my experience.

Yes, Hyder are one of the more reputable Consultants in Qatar and have been here a long, long time. They have major contracts with Ashghal and Kharamaa on Roads/ Drainage/ Water Supply.

QR40k/m is OK for an Engineer, up to say QR50k/m if your are Chartered and experienced and a max of say QR60k for a Technical Director. Holidays are crap, about 25 callendar days plus a few public holidays.

I have 18 years experience and have chartership and pmp qualified. Should I ask for more? What's reasonable? I don't want to p&@s them off as this is the best offer in 13 months.

Many thanks for replies so far?

One final one.

Anyone working for Byrne Looby? How do you find them?

Or should I just take the 40000qr per month just so that I have ME experience on the CV. At least then I could move to other job & location should a better deal come up.........

The choices!

I know BLP fairly well and the two of them are pretty decent guys, plus they have always been a professional outfit. Used to deal with them a lot for geotechnical stuff back when Ireland had a building industry.

40k might be light.

Have you got a degree?

What do you actually do?

Thanks WD and Scamp.

I am a senior civil engineer in water and drainage design with charter ship and pmp quals.

Thought 40k was light.

Byrne Looby might be a good option should I need to get back to
Ireland in a few years. Just want to keep all options open.

What quals have you got? HNC / BSc / MSc?
