Re: Doctor in Qatar??
Hi Frogg
I think its time for me to get back in touch with the agency, upto now they have been assuring me that things will be progressing soon.
I didnt think withdrawing the offer was even an option as they need more doctors???

Re: Doctor in Qatar??
The recruitment agency said the following ' There is a possibility that they may retract offers if they don’t get approval on the numbers.'
Is your offer from phcc or hmc? As I understand it the drop in oil prices has affected the economies of the gcc countries. As the oil prices have started climbing back up, I would hope that any chances of a retraction of offer falls.
Let us know what your recruiting agency say.

Re: Doctor in Qatar??
Yes, I have now visited Doha.
As helpfully highlighted by Thiami et al in recent months, HMC/PHCC etc are not currently recruiting.
My understanding is that the Emir enforced a 20% cut on spending across the board as it were, healthcare included. Equally, people I spoke to were optimistic about the prospects of further recruitment in the (?near) future.
Healthcare remains a fundamental priority in this rapidly expanding country, so there can only be so long that things will be left on hold.
Primary Care seems pretty rudimentary and the system is a bit of a guddle if you ask me, but it seems they have the desire to improve, and this will require overseas recruitment.
Clearly having just re-organised, and let a lot of people go in the process, further immediate recruitment would be a bit crass, but who knows.
So, bottom line, you will need to wait and see, but definitely speak to your recruitment agency

Hi
My offer is from HMC
I have spoken to the agency today and they told me that HMC will proceed with the offers they have made.
I have asked for clarification to what stage we are currently at (has credentialing begun or not). I signed the initial offer in December and sent all the requested documents in January and then in Feb they contacted me for more documents.
Hopefully I will hear from the agency in the next few days with a clearer answer

Re: Doctor in Qatar??
Dear All (To Whom It May Concern),
I had been waiting for an update re: my GP senior consultant job for HMC Emergency dept. for a while and when I did not have a clear answer from my recruitment agency and no reply from HR dept. at HMC I tried emailing the business manager at HMC Emergency dept. He kindly promptly replied and below are contents if his email.
"Thank you for your email and I am sorry that you haven’t been getting any response from HR.
The situation is fairly dire as far as recruitment goes; we will likely not be recruiting to Emergency for the foreseeable future. In addition to this, and more relevant to your case, is that with the commencement of our new chairman our direction has shifted away from hiring GP’s to the Emergency Department altogether".
I have heard applications have started to progress for HMC mobile dr sevices but for those like myself who were destined for HMC Emergency dept (ambulatory care or Staff Medical Centre) please do no waste your time or money (for legalisation of docements etc. in preparation).
All the best regards,

Thank you for the update Zohaq. I have an offer (on hold) from PHCC. I contacted the recruitment agency last week and was told that nothing is happening with the PHCC recruitment as of yet. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Hi Zohaq
Thank you for the update, I wanted to ask you if it was the business manager that said they are progressing with the mobile dr's service?

Re: Doctor in Qatar??
Zohaq. The A/E guy is right. Their previous chairman was an Australian with British background. He was keen to have GP in A/E to reduce the burden on A/E (As we have done in UK ). The new chairman is American, I think. And I have heard that he is against this idea of GPs working in A/E. They already shifted their previous A/E GP in the staff clinic or mobile team. That's why they stopped recruitment for staff clinic drs as well.
As per PHCC, there is a slow progress. Few of the drs joined in the last couple of weeks but these drs already had their visa issued before the freeze on recruitment. I don't think PHCC is recruiting/ issuing visa for new drs yet.

Thanks Tihami for your update and for further clarifying matters. "New Direction" - no, the A&E business manager never said they are recruiting mobile drs. but my Ireland based recruitment agant said so.

Re: Doctor in Qatar??
Bringing up an old-ish thread. I am interested in moving to Qatar, either with HMC or PHCC. 5 years post MRCGP experience.
Any 'insiders' have any idea when recruitment may start again? Agencies here keep saying possibly by the end of the year...

Are there any recommendations for good recruitment agencies? Has anyone heard of Global Medical Recruiting based in South Africa?
Thanks in advance?
