Default Decent Salary in Dubai for Senior Software Engineer?

Hi guys.
We are considering moving to Dubai for work. Here is the current situation.

I, Jackson live in the UK and work as a technical Leader software engineer for Renishaws company.
My wife Jade lives in ShenZhen next to Hongkong china with our two daughters as a senior education advisor.

Does anyone have info on what a good salary would be and whether it would be difficult for any of us to find work in Dubai. I've heard the international
school fees are crazy.

Our two daughters are aged 3 years and 7 years. Also advice on accomodation would be great.

Forgot to mention I'm a British Chinese with both languages. My wife is English.

Thanks
Jackson.

Software development is normally well covered by subcon 'talent' and so wages would be in the 10-15k range. Would be very unusual to get more than 15 unless you were in a senior management role.

Rather unusual for anyone to move from the Far East to Dubai, as it's usually the reverse route. Have you not tried Singapore or indeed Malaysia?

He's based in London, missus not.

Schooling (British Curriculum): Fees for mine are in the region of 30K AED a year for FS1 and 41K a year for FS2 (up to year 6 I think). Hope that helps

Thanks for the information on schooling. We would definitely need the british curriculum. Regarding an earlier post you mean 10 to 15,000 a month and in which currency please? I'm not familiar with Dubai's currency and think in British Pounds.

10-15k AED per month = approx GBP 1,667 - 2,500 per month

Senior software engineers/developers/consultants in the companies I've worked at are on around 10k. Unlikely to get 15k as a developer I would say, thats more like the salary for a development manager or perhaps a consultant/developer in a specialised language. You will be lucky to get 15 as a vb.net, c sharp developer

Thanks for your info. Also I'm assuming the salary is only one part of the package. What are the normal benefits in terms of accomodation, flights, car etc for working there.
regards
jackson

Additional benefits are between nothing and everything. Every contract is different.

You will almost certainly get a yearly return flight home (or cash to the value of) and medical insurance. Additional benefits could be housing allowance, travel allowance, school fees etc. But the salary I was quoting includes all those addditional benefits.

heavens that is a low salary. When you say it includes those benefits do you mean those expenses would need paying out of such a salary. That would seem to be impossible.

Jackson

Yes, I mean you would need to pay them out of your salary. You may be lucky and find a job with a better salary, I am quoting from my personal experience having worked as a senior consultant/programmer here for many years. My husband is on a good package and I love programming so I was happy to work for a lower wage as I enjoyed my work so much. I have now moved up into management which increased my salary but I don't get to be hands on anymore, so I don't 'love' my work like I used to.

What languages do you develop in?
