Default Contract in Saudi

Hi
I have a question that is often asked by people I know in saudi. What happens if a person decides to break their contract and wants to leave before the contractual period is completed? What penalities are incurred?
This will be interesting!
Thanks in anticipation

sorry, bad answer, but it really comes down to the contract and the company. most will include remuneration of costs/expenses incurred by the company in getting you into the magic kingdom, remainder of housing expenses, etc. if you're unlucky enough to not have a multi-exit/entry visa, then you have to make sure you play nice long enough to get one from them so that you can leave too.

depending on your personal situation, i know of a handful of expats from my current company that have simply gone on "holiday" and emailed in their notice once outside the magic place, foregoing (spelling?) any end-of-service or anything else for the safety of being outside of the saudi jurisdiction.
