Chances of me getting a job in ME

Hi all,

I've been thinking about moving to work abroad for a while now, the Middle East (Qatar or Dubai) being the ideal destination. I've started doing some serious research now that my current job will likely end at the end of the year but am wondering what the chances are of being able to land a job with my current experience/knowledge.

I'm a CS graduate who has been working in a multinational bank's IT Security dept. for just over a year (my work revolves around SOX regulations). Before that, I did some part time work while at uni. and some voluntary work before that. So all in all, I have 1 years full time work experience.

The job ads I've come across seem largely targeted towards middle/senior level experienced individuals so this has put me off a bit. Is my experience too junior and am I being too ambitious with this idea?

Ambition is not a bad thing and lots of people manage to land jobs here that are either a step up from what they were doing in the UK or use it as a bit of a fast-track for promotion.

Basically, you've got time on your hands, so give it a go, but consider it a bit of a gamble/ bonus card...your experience could be problematic. Basically, see how it goes, but don't hold your breath - you may get lucky... or may not.

The short answer is you may struggle as you have only limited experience.

The slightly longer answer is that you may find a job, but it will potentially be badly paid and give you little in terms of career progression. It's a tough world in the ME and employers are generally looking for people who can do the job already rather than provide new employees with on the job training. There are of course exceptions.

Like HK said give it a go, but be prepared to be disappointed...

Good luck!

Ok, thanks guys. I'll keep looking to see if I can land something.
