Best employers in the Gulf?

Good day gents,

Life changing circumstances (divorce) has led to me very strongly look into moving to the middle east on an ex-pat basis. Without much experience with ME oil/gas companies I was wondering who is the best 'gig' in town right now? My background, early 30's process engineer (operations in refining and gas plant background) so I am looking for commissioning/start-up work OR plant operations if the job/company is right. I know people who work w/Aramco and love it, however I was told that it's best to go with a wife/family. I've heard good things about Qatar these days, lot's of growth.

For someone new to the expat community, where would be the best place to work and which companies are best to target (RasGas VS QatarGas?)? Since I'll be on my own, either on a rotational or permanent basis, I'd also like to make sure there is a good expat community to interact with and not go crazy.

Any thoughts?

Much appreciated,

Biz

Would most people agree Aramco is one of the best employer's in the gulf? Best salaries, benefits and lifestyle (compound living). It seems to me Qatar is on the up and up based on lots of new investment and more expats moving in. Any thoughts?

Difficult to get into ARAMCO who are offering jobs more through contractors these days. Golden days are over.

I agree. ARAMCO is probably the best to work for in the dark kingdom. I have been to there compound in RAS Tanura, which is a small different country inside the kingdom. What is allowed inside the compound is a taboo outside. For example, I could see women driving, and women in bikini having BBQ on the beach in RAMADAN.

How would you rank the Aramco experience to other ME oil co's such as RasGas, Bapco, ADNOC etc?

I suppose no one can help you out with any ranking in this region, as there are some strengths and weaknesses in terms of salaries, allowances, freedom, working conditions, etc. Does the ranking or best company really matter to you? I would suggest you to join one company, such as in UAE or Qatar, for a couple of years and then move around. With your own experiences, you will certainly be able to decide which one suits you best.

I'm not really after a ranking, just looking for some good recommendations and experiences.
