Default Abu Dhabi Job Offer

Deal All,

I have been offered a position in Abu Dhabi and I am undecided about accepting the position due to concerns about the economy and in particular the cost of living. I am luck to have a reasonably secure job in Europe with decent pay. One of the main considerations in relocating would be bankable salary. I have read mixed reports about high rent and day to day living. I would appreciate if you could let me know if the following deal would allow me to bank a reasonable amount.

I have 4 primary going kids and would have to provide transport for both myself and my wife. I would need to rent a 4 bed property in Abu Dhabi. Here is the deal offered....

Annual Salary AED 480K

Living allowance AED 330k

Medical cover provided

School fees almost but not fully covered.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP, I NEED TO MAKE A CALL ON THIS SOON

it would depend if the company is going to help provide you with accommodation for a 3 bed townhouse in raha gardens they are going for upwards of 330k a year plus estate agent fees, connection fees to electricity/phone/satellite etc etc. a small car is something like 2k a month on a longish lease, primary school fees are around 13k each per term, but the problem will be getting them all in...... big waiting lists for all schools. are they providing you annual flights as for 6 that would add up too. they have to provide medical cover by law, but some will be better than others, some will be very basic, so you need to say which insurance firm etc. what industry is it, because i wouldnt move over here now and give up a safe job.

Apart from the above, you will all have a great life here, 330K will get you a 3 bed or if you are very lucky, a 4 bed.

If your company are offering you 330K they must be pretty good so I would imagine they will have comprehensive medical cover etc in place.

Sounds all good to me, and for the record, not all companies/industries are paying off right now.

There are a load of drama merchants on here that think AD revolves around aldar and laing o'rouk...

My husband gets a similar salary and a similar accommodation allowance. We have 4 children also, 3 of them school age. We don't get an allowance for school fees so that obviously comes out of his salary. At the british school your 4 primary childrens fees would come to dhs46660 per term, if most of that is covered, all the better. We moved here in Feb/March last year and moved into our villa in Khalifa City A 3 months ago, our rent is dhs400,000, for that we have 7 bedrooms, an outside maids room and a private swimming pool, we are not on a compound. You can get somewhere if you look hard, it's not all doom and gloom. Our car, an 8 seater ford expedition, costs us dhs2800 per month. Although rent is expensive, we still have a lot more money than we did in the UK, we don't worry about shopping bills, buying clothes or going out socialising and we spend what we need to, also we still pay our mortgage in the UK. We do get a car allowance and a petrol allowance, medical cover and 2 flights each per year. I would say, if your new company is secure, go for it. We have such a great life here, we never want to go back to the UK. We never had any problems getting school places, although I understand that some people do, however, I think this is because a lot of people put their childrens names down for more than one school then when the new school year begins and they pick a place, a lot of places are freed up. No-one I know hasn't got a place for their children! How do the rest of your family feel about a move to Abu Dhabi? Good luck.

cherrypie thought that you were moving onto a compound and your rent was less than that?

today was the first day that people could apply to the likes of bsak, and there was as usual a queue at reception handing in the forms. I think the same will be of yasmina and pearl. it really depends on when you need the school places, i think cherrypie came at the right time and was lucky.... because depending on the year group you can wait over a year or more. half the time here in ad its just luck being in the right place at the right time. there is a rule here that come 15th feb you cannot swap schools within the uae, so if places come available after that date, they will be given to people outside the uae if that makes sense to you. it has got a little easier since yasmina opened this year, and if the permissions go ahead in time, there may be another new british aldar school next sept. there is also a british international school meant to be opening somewhere in kca but dont know exactly where, i am guessing that it would be over in the 'extra' section of kca near to CIS etc if anywhere. but you have to be in it to win it.

After 8 months in a hotel we decided to see what else was out there and found this gem.

I do realise that we were in the right place at the right time as far as schools were concerned but, as I've said many times before, I don't think people should be put off, there are places to be had. People come and go all the time and when they leave there is a school place to be filled.

i am not putting anybody off am I? as i said you have to be in it to win it. now that yasmina has opened it has taken the pressure off bsak a little, and if they open another one then its all getting better. and unfortunately there are people leaving ad at the moment... but you do have to take into account the moe ruling about changing schools, as this defo helps people from abroad to find a place at schools in the next couple of weeks (as did you).
