Default YMM ;) Hi Rene

I was reading a post from about 3-4 weeks ago about the interview in
Turkey and the time it took for my husbands visa. I tried to post a
reply to it but could not find the line to post..WHY I DON"T KNOW.
ANYHOO.

It took my husband about 2 weeks to get his visa because he had to
finish the Shenasname (If I spelled that right)
By the time my husband submitted it via ups it arrived on the last day
they were open. The following week Ankara was closed one extra day so
if fell short again. By Tuesday morning I called the embassy and said
hey look, my husband is in a foreign country with no one that he knows
and he is alone waiting for his visa. I was told it takes 5 days and
it took almost 7 days (business). They said his visa had gone to print
and he should have it by the morning. After my phone call, With in 3
hours he had his visa in hand. Some of the people working at the
embassy are not so bright and organised. Had I been there, I would
have been climbing through their window at that moment in time!!

I truly believe the security check had gone through as the NVC had
told me. DONE and finished when it hit the embassy. I posted soem
time ago about precheck posts and Ankara was one of them that gets
security checks prior to the arrival to the embassy to shorten the
length of time it takes instead of sending the file to the embassy and
then back to the DOS. (SO it goes from the NVC to the DOS then to the
NVC again where i think they forward it to the embassy.)

That was not the worst part of it though.
POE---POINT OF ENTRY..
I was late arriving to the airport roughly about 3 hours. My timing
was excellent at least I thought so.
They really scrutinized my husband and he was drilled for about 3
hours. Not only drilled but STRIP searched. I don't mind the mind
games and special screening but I do mind the strip search which is
not only demeaning but degrading as well. A total violation of ones
persons right not to be treated as a criminal for wanting to be with
his wife.
It took my husband some time to tell me about it but he finally did.
He said at that time, he really wanted to go back home. I did not
blame him. He was so happy to be here and so very tired for the long
trip and not being able to sleep then to run into crap like that and a
welcome to the United States now come with me and take off your
clothes because you have a 42 calibur stuck up your butt. Your our
prisoner until further notice.

After all that, he is safe here in my home and I am learning alot
about the Persian culture and the do's and do not's **WINKS to you
RENE

Anyone who has a fiance or husband from Iran, Lybia, Sudan and so on
need to be mentally prepared for the uphill climb you have for the 1st
day of your life in the United States.
Angry I am about the strip search and interrogation because we worked
hard for 2 years for this moment so he could be apart of the big Red,
white and blue.
community. I wonder so much as to why the detailed interview if they
are only going to put you through it again at the POE to decide wether
or not they will keep you or send you back.

Unfortunately it does not end there either because you have to check
in between day 30 and day 40 as well so they know your not hiding
anywhere.

Be prepared at the POE for anything.
Sorry so late for my posting but better late than never.
Jewels

PS.. Rene the packet 3 is easy, forget the lawyer and do it yourself.
You have to trust yourself. I did it with out my attorney (I told
myself I had to trust myself)and a good thing too otherwise my husband
probably would make it a month or so later.

That's the first time I've ever heard of that!! I didn't know they did any kind of search at all. Is this just for the countries with state-sponsored terrorism?

I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's the 7 countries that I can never remember all of them. Iran, Iraq, and it starts getting fuzzy after that. I know Morocco is not one of them.

Hi Linda!

Khalid had his interview on December 8th, but no visa yet. More administrative processing. Hopefully we'll hear something soon. I posted this thread the day of his interview:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=195609

And this one a couple of days later:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=196116

How are things with you guys?

thanks for the interesting reading les. things have really changed after my hubby's interview. he never had to stand across the street and he didnt bring copies of anything. :scared:
i can't begin to imagine what kind of state i'd be in if they sent him back home because something was lost, i mean forgotten.
anyway i hope u and kris get your loved ones here soon.
things r going good here. badr is loving the american life and the nice people around here. although he is going crazy not being able to work. we havent been able to file for his EAD as of yet because of financial problems. but definitely will by the middle of january. actually it will be better filing in jan so by the time he gets his EAD, places will be hiring. right now there is no work to be found. not even mcdonald's is hiring. oh well.

Hi Jewels!

I'm so glad you posted your experience. That will be really helpful to others going through this with Iranian spouses/fiance(e)s.

Yes, the check-in is for Iranians, and probably others from countries of state-sponsored terrorism.

For those of you reading Jewel's post, "shenasname" is the Iranian birth certificate :-)

I'm grateful to Jewels for sharing her process, experience, and friendship with me. She's been so very helpful, having gone through all this just about a step ahead of me. Many thanks to her, and welcome to America to her husband! :-))

Best Wishes,
Rene
p.s. - Jewels, let me know if you need any help with the the finer points of Persian etiquette hehehe

Hi Leslie,

I found out about the strip search from Jewels a little while after her husband got here. I haven't warned Sadegh yet. I'm not sure how to say that in Farsi, so I figured I can give him a hands-on demonstration when I see him for his interview. LOL OOPS....did I say that???

I'm just kidding...he's got enough on his mind right now with trying to get his originals from Iran, I thought I'd save the gory explanation of what to expect at the POE for a later time. I will be flying over with him, though, when the time comes, so I'll be right there to reassure him that all will be fine.

Yes you said that out loud. LOL

If I told Khalid that he would be strip searched, he probably wouldn't come. He'd make me move to Morocco. If it were me I'd just not tell him and let him find out the hard way. I'm sorry, it's not funny, but in a way it is.

I need it..

As for another post that was made, there is a special check in between
days 30 and 40 for people from "terrorist" countries. Morroco is not
one of them.
Lots of fun things. Just make sure your Fiance or husband know about
glitches that may or may not come up at the point of entry.
