Woohoo! Notice of removal of conditional basis...

Re: Woohoo! Notice of removal of conditional basis...
The online status updates are not very accurate. As Ian mentioned there are posters that are now US Citizens and there case status is still pending! My lawyer had put in a service request after 7 months. He was told that there is nothing wrong with my case and that the online processing time of 6 months is not accurate. As I mentioned my husbands case took 9 months. There were no issues. There is no exact time or date when you will receive your card. You are still in status.

As Rene mentioned these agents are just contract workers. They do not work for USCIS directly.

I understand.
But they don't "make-up" what they say. The info must be "provided" to them by the USCIS. Otherwise, how would the agent get the "April 4th" info?

Yes, they do. Why? Because they can, and because nothing bad will ever happen to them if they do!
Not necessarily, no.
Last year, there were 223,428 phone calls to the 1-800 number looking for the same sort of information you're after.

I hear what you all are saying - and OK, I'm not writing this for my own cause.
But - it doesn't make sense. If they ARE making things up, it means the service is good for nothing and surely people have complained before and surely the management knows. Why would they let this continue like it is then? If this is true, the "service" constitutes a sham. No?

Re: Woohoo! Notice of removal of conditional basis...
Exactly.
People have probably complained before, yes...there is a USCIS Omnibudsman you can write to. Whether "management" knows or cares, I have no idea. The people who answer the initial calls don't work for USCIS, they are contract workers who are given a script that only deals with the most basic of questions, and given a computer which shows them the same thing you see on your home computer.
Because they can, and as a goverment agency, they are not held responsible for any wrong advice they hand out, so there's no incentive to give correct advice.
Yes. It's not really a service. Sometimes they get an answer right, more often they get it wrong.

Even if they aren't making things up, many people are of the opinion that the service is good for nothing. That's why we commonly refer to it as the Mis-information Line, or the National Customer Dis-service Center, and we've been calling it that ever since its inception.
Yes.

I don't understand how, as a goverment agency, they are not held responsible for any wrong advice they hand out.

USICE probably asks for bids to perform the service and goes with the lowest bidder. The same thing occurred for airport security prior to 9/11.

Amazing. So why do taxpayers (us) allow this kind of sham to be funded with our money?
Rhetorical question maybe..
