Default Wonderful News

All of you returning to the UK--you will not be lonely, especially from May 1st. Page six "International Express Feb 17th Edition"
Quote "Downing Street has admitted that nothing can be done to prevent 74 million people from economically backward countries gaining the right to come and live in Britain from May 1st."

I have also heard a rumour that the Royals are willing to convert Windsor Castle into flats to help alleviate the overcrowding and strain on social services--or maybe a "Tent City" on the grouse moors?

New Zealand for all its little faults looks more attractive by the minute.

"Economically backward countries" Eh!

I didn't realise there were 74 million people in New Zealand.
Still most of them won't be able to afford the airfares.

It's unreasonable to say NZ's "economically backward"

It's just backward.

Don't panic Tony Blair is on to this - we've only 9 weeks to go before the date so he has left it a bit late - but given Tony's track record in immigration matters we need fear not. He also has every other european countries policy including sweden to copy so that may help them a bit although would'nt put money on it.

Standby Monday (after leaks to the Sunday Times and Sun and any other Murdoch owned paper over the weekend with hugely exaggerated claims of their tough new policy) for the actual details. Cannot wait.

Have to say as somebody living in the SE of England we need more economic migrants. May be strange to a kiwi but there are literally thousands of jobs here that nobody can be bothered to do. But it does have to be controlled correctly to avoid the "chinese cockle picker" type disasters.

Should also add that 20 million aussies have the right to go and work in NZ but do not think it is worth it.

I agree with this. Lower skilled jobs are plentiful in the South East. My mum works in Sainsburys and they are SO, SO short staffed, she's had enough and wants to leave because she's under so much pressure, running the deli counter on her own!!

It does need to be controlled, we should look at this issue more positively in the UK, we could all benefit if it's done properly.
