Default Wife got her AP, but only valid for 3 months?!?

Hi,

The good news:
My wife just picked up her AP from the SF Office today.

The bad news:
It expires 03/15/2004!

My question is, is this normal?? How come the AP is only valid for 3
months? I doubt she would get her greencard by then.

Any response from those with prior experience is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

This has happened a few times; possible causes:

a) It's a single entry and the trip was before then
b) They are highly optimistic about processing times
c) They screwed up
d) They want to make some money.

If you can rule out (a) then you'll have to try and find out whether it's
b-d which almost certainly means a visit in person. It's unlikely they will
issue a new one with a longer period without refiling (and paying the fee
again) though.

Andy.

Given the realities of SF-based AOS (it has been running 9-10 months for nearly a year), and what happened in my personal case (requested AP for specific trips spanning through March; got AP for 3 months) I'd go with option (d) myself.

I haven't filed for AP myself, nor am I the USCIS so obviously I can't answer this for certain, but I don't think it states anywhere that they have to give you more than 3 months. I would assume that they based this 3 month period on the information you gave to them. Then again the others could obviously be right that they just wanted to make the extra money since they knew you would make more trips than this one. I definitely wouldn't consider this "abnormal" though...but I do feel sorry for you if you intended to make more trips!
