Mark got his Virginia's drivers license with the following documentation:
- expired K1 visa and I-94 in passport
- marriage certificate
- current utility bill in his name
- EAD
- SSN card
Also, Mark had to hold a learners permit for 30 days before he could take his driving test. At the time he got his drivers license, we still hadn't had our AOS interview (and won't for two more weeks from now).

I went for a learners permit last week and just showed my passport
(work permit stamp for a year in it) and birth certificate along with
my wifes license and our marriage certificate. I had my SSN in my
hand along with a bank statement and they weren't asked for. I had
filled the SSN on the form though.
It was pretty busy in the office (stark contrast to what I was used to
in Scotland). Still, after answering their onscreen questions and
paying my $5.50 (how cheap is that!) I gave a mugshot and got my
learners permit. Had my first drive on the right hand side of the
road today (automatic transmission - bl**dy wonderful - wish I'd
gotten one years ago). Once I get a lot of practice in, I'll go and
see about the full test. I still can't believe you are able to turn
right when the traffic light is red (caveats apply natch) and that
turning lane may take some getting used to.
I can't believe how much people obey the speed limit around here!
It's a good thing admittedly. Perhaps this is only an Appalachian
phenomena?

Go to a different DMV. When Sohail and I went to get his DL, the woman at the local DMV wouldn't accept our marriage certificate, even though it was in English. She said that the certificate didn't look real to her, and that we had to go to the courthouse and get a "real" one. We went to another DMV the next day, and walked out with a learner's permit.
