Default Why Americans have huge personal trucks

Can't believe it took me this long to work it out . Clearly it's so they can drive over central reservations / raised medians and three lanes of traffic to get to where they want to go, to avoid driving an extra 25 yards to the traffic lights to do a U-turn and back in the entrance.

That may be a factor, but the main reason is so they need to take out additional loans to pay for the oversized truck and be forced to live paycheck to paycheck to pay for the gas, and then whine to me "You're so lucky being able to retire, I'll have to work till I'm eighty years old, I have to pay my mortgage, my equity lines of credit and my car loans."

Idiots. Make a realistic budget and live within it. That may involve driving a used Corolla.

Just yesterday I saw someone driving a Hummer through a parking lot, very carefully weaving in and out around the speed humps.

It's the pickup trucks with lift kits which are prevalent around here I just don't get.

I must be waking up this morning. I just read the thread title as if "personal trucks" was a particularly obscure euphemism. I might just be slightly manic.

I kinda get the whole lift kit for a working vehicle but very few of them are used for that...

What really gets me is why someone would buy a pickup where the ride is already not a priority, and then lower it and put low profile tires on it... It must ride like its being driven on cobbled streets!

I thought this was an oblique reference to something we don't mention in polite company.

One track mind! And Cindyabs too!

I was trying to word it as the sort of truck one drives for personal use, not as a company utility vehicle or 40-wheeler!

This sort of thing:

My DH who is the Brit in our duo, is the one who occasionally casts longing glances at pickemups. The chunkier the better.

and he doesn't even drive..........

It is so you can get the "Free Stuff" from someone else's yard, to then store in your own drive way.

I know I could have done with one several times over the last few months - most recently this weekend just gone when wifey decided she liked the basketball hoop in a garage sale. Cue 6' of basketball post and base hanging out the back of a Dodge Grand Caravan, and driving at 5mph to avoid the thing hitting the road when going over the lumps of Asphalt that vaguely form roads around here.

I tell you, when I was a young adult and poor, the hero of the crowd I ran with was a fellow who didn't mind spending the odd weekend helping people move. He didn't actually do any of the lifting, due to a back injury; his truck was the key contribution... and we appreciated it beyond belief and dreamt of the day when we'd be able to afford one ourselves. I never did buy a truck myself, but the moment I could afford a car configured the way I wanted (instead of just the cheapest thing available), I picked one with a huge amount of storage capacity.

Having a small car, I often get cut off by big trucks. Last week one guy honked at me for not letting him cut in front of me.

It seems to be a penis extension for some men, although mostly used for waving in the face of other men rather than to attract women.
