Hello All,
It's been a while since I posted last but I've been keeping up to date
with this great newsgroup by reading. I was issued EAD by the BCIS 7
weeks ago and have been waiting for my Social Security number for the
same amount of time. When is a good time to call our congressman to
ask for help in speeding up to get my SS number. I have talked to
people at SS regularly and they tell me the delay is at the BCIS end.
Should I wait a while longer because I have read of experiences of
people waiting much longer than me or should I go ahead and see if I
can get help?
Thank you
Michael & Samanatha.
PS For those of you who know me, My Son was born on St. Patrick's Day,
March 17th 2003 weighing 10lbs ½ ounce. It was a great day for him to
be born with me being from Dublin Ireland. He is a handful but he is
the best thing ever, we are both so happy and all the Immigration
worries / stress have been really worth it even though we have to go
through much worst in the future maybe, so you can understand our
situation with the SS Number.

As for your SSN, I FEEL your pain. David waited 12 weeks for his. We got our congressman involved after 8. He was very, very helpful. If I were you, I would contact yours now. Do you know who your rep is? Does he/she have a website? Ours did and it detailed what to do in case of trouble with "government agencies" - including BCIS.
We had to fill out a authorization form, send it back and then they contacted BCIS and SSA for us. We did everything in writing, since I tend to be a little uptight (

Good luck. Keep me posted - I hope you get that number SOON. I know how you feel - waiting on Dave to be able to work...we are expecting our first baby soon too and the financial worries can be crushing.
Hang in there!!
