I'm applying for a Canadian travel visa. I have had my I-485 interview, my H1-B was scratched out and I have my EAD and AP documents. The canadian visa application form has a question about immigrant status in country of residence. Options are :
-Citizen
-Perm. Resident
-Temp. Resident
-Worker
-Student
-Other
What do I fill in? Am I temp. resident?

Well, like 1000's of others I'm stuck in the name check rut. A few people have asked me what my status is (for job offers and such) and I don't have an answer really..it seems like a grey area to me..

Perhaps temporary residents could be considered the H-1B/L-1 spouse of a worker(i.e. someone who can't work but can in the US), somone who has TPS status.

When I searched "temporary resident" on the USCIS site, the result was something completely different from what the OP is talking about. The I-687 is the Application for Status as a Temporary Resident Under Section 245A of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The I-687 instructions say:
Eligibility.
An alien may be eligible for Temporary Resident status if:
1. He or she can establish that he or she entered the United States before January 1, 1982, and that he or she has resided continuously in the United States in an unlawful status since such date and through the date the application is considered filed pursuant to the settlement agreements (in the case of an alien who entered the United States as a nonimmigrant before January 1, 1982, the alien must establish that the alien's period of authorized stay as a nonimmigrant expired before such date through the passage of time or the alien's unlawful status was known to the government as of such date) and
2. He or she can establish that he or she has been continuously physically present in the United States since November 6, 1986 and through the date the application is considered filed pursuant to the settlement agreements.
So, I would say the OP is definitely NOT a Temporary Resident. I agree with Rene -- "Your status is 'Pending Adjustment of Status to Permanent Resident', with valid Employment Authorization (if you still have a valid EAD)."
