I'm about to send all the paperwork so that my wife (USC) petition for
me (Im currently in the US). Everywhere I read, it says that the
interview takes place around one year after the petition. Just
wondering, what if I get divorced before the interview? (not that Im
planning it, but I always like to know the "what ifs").
Would I still have to attend some interview?
Could I be able to say "Oh well, you know what, this marriage isn't
going to work, let's take back the petition and I'm leaving to my
country."? (without having a negative 'shadow' behind me, as far as
immigration goes)
In other words, Would I be able to get another visitor's visa, and
come to the US every now and then for vacations?
Thank you.

Hey there
Well as far as I know the interview is to prove BCIS that you guys are together because of love, that your marriage isn't a fraud to get a green card (Correct me someone If I am wrong!!)
Don't you worry about "What if", You still have a long way to go with BCIS, so don't you add more complications as this process is complex enough.
Good Luck on your process![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

i think if you are honest about it, and inform the INS that you no
longer married to this person and hence you're leaving the country and
then actually leave, then i assume that they won't consider it such a
bad things and probably you won't have problems coming back on
visitors visas and stuff... but i would always ask a lawyer about
it... i'm not one.

I thought that if you divorced *before* your initial, adjustment of status, interview where you get your conditional residency, the AOS process was terminated as a matter of law unless you qualified under one of the exceptions, like VAWA? Or is that only for fiances?
I imagine that if you departed the country on your own after a lawful admission, with no criminal or health related problems while you were here to trip up a future visa application, you'd be able to get a visitor's visa to come back later.

If this guy is entering marriage in this state of mind, it is obvious
what his intentions are. I hope the woman sees through this before it
is too late.
