So, if there is such a tight grip about one incident with people in their lives involving drugs & alcohol or who knows what else...why do all the celebrities get in to live in America. They usually have many many problems and incidents.

Jeff: A further observation: the issue of the risk of future harm from alcohol consumption is an issue that creates a lot of heat and lightning. Like past posters with similar situations, OP appears to be "P.O.d" in American English which I think translates to "brassed off" in British English. It is hard to engage at those times.

Doesn't require translation. However, She's pissed off about the immigration consequences of a piss up! would require translation for a monolingual American audience.

Laws change, as do interpretations of the laws.
Having huge amounts of money can help get over some barriers, I think, but even John Lennon had a terribly difficult time getting a Green Card.

To be fair, since S Folinsky does not identify himself as an immigration attorney, there is no reason a newcomer would know that he is and that they therefore might want to pay more attention to what he says than anyone else. When it's difficult to decipher, I can almost understand OP's reply (even if very rude by our board's standards).

Unfortunately, Jen3 doesn't yet seem to grasp how serious her husband's situation might be. There isn't enough information posted to know yet, and she has to engage in the discussion. Well, the husband does, really.
I guess this will fall under 'janitorial work' or 'another sad story' or maybe it will be 'everything turned out fine'.

I am not exactly a newcomer. You guys were the ones who let me know I could become a British citizen because my mother is British and that was over 5 years ago. I have been researching this and I do understand how serious this is. We may not be able to live in the US now or ever. I get that. As to Mr S F, he has provided me great information in the past, this time it personally didn't help because I didn't understand it.
