And yet all the legal, by-the-book, honest people have to line up and wait for ages.
Very frustrating indeed.
Actually, I think the Canadian Govt is even worse, if you're a criminal in your home country, you're bumped to the front the line.

Yes that was my blunder. I went to CIS to register with NSEER.
I had been asking CIS also known as INS to reinstate my status so I could apply for Practical Training after I graduated. THere was no replies from CIS (1997). And that resulted in me becoming illegal. I was a full time legal student until 1998.
So I was not illegal for 12 years. I entered the country legally. And stayed most of the period as a legal student.
