Default Waiting over a month for my EAD

I applied for my adjustment of status (at Charlotte) on August 2nd (the date INS
recieved it) and with it I sent in my EAD application.

Now it's been a month and a few days and I haven't heard anything, has anyone had
this length of time before? I understand the adjustment of status takes over a year,
the EAD is what I am waiting for because I have job waiting.

Any help would be very welcome as this is a pretty desperate situation.

The INS has 90 days to act on EAD applications. SOme offices use every bit of that,

same thing happened to us. We went to the district office where we filed, and they
had lost our application!!! We had our receipt and copies, though, so they cranked
out my wife's EAD right there on the spot. Go in person to the office!!

Hi Dennis,

I had applied for AOS also, my I-130, I-485, and all related documents including the
EAD and AP were submitted to Charlotte on 6/19,2002 by US Post. I got receipt
confirmation 2 days later that the package was signed for on 6/20 by the INS.

On 7/27 I got INS confirmation that my package was received, the date on my INS
receipt (this is the processing date they use) was July 08, 2002. This also had my A#
(alien number) recorded on the letter.

I got a request on Aug 03, 2002 requesting I return a hand written form to tell them
my A# so that my medical (that was done and submitted with my package) could be
related to my file.

On Aug 16, I got a notification to go to the Charlotte Application Support Center to
have my fingerprinting done on Aug 28, 2002.
NOTE: I was in Charlotte on the 19th so went to the office and they were nice and did
my fingerprinting right there and then.

On Aug 23, 2002 I received my adv parole documents, they are good for multiple trips
and good for 1 year.

On Sept 7, 2002 I got notice in the mail that I am to be in Charlotte on Fri Sept 20
at 10AM for me EAD processing.
Note: I am desperate to work as well, not only mentally but financially we need the
money, so I had read a prior post where a person had his EAD appointment which
conflicted with a prior engagement, he went in early and the INS processed it
for him that day. I took the chance and went to the INS office yesterday
(9/9), you would think it would be like a nut house being a monday, but it was
very quiet, and only a dozen or so people there waiting to see officers. Well
for your EAD you are told to put your letter in a mail slot at the door and
have a seat, so that is what I did. About 10 min later a man came out and said
that I was about 2 weeks early and normally they wont process it, but it was a
slow day so he would do it for me, he said to have a seat and he would be with
me soon. I sat down expecting a long wait, but in about 20 min he came and got
me, took me in and took my pictured and laminated my card and I was out of
there in less than 1 hour total. He was pleasant and chatted to me the whole
time, matter a fact, he commented on how beautiful a country Canada is and
wondered why I would want to live in the USA and that he spent several years in
Canada and would much prefer to live there.....you know he is the first person
that has actually had anything good to say to me about my homeland, normally
anyone who finds that I am from Canada makes fun and knocks my country down,
and I fail to wonder why this is??

Anyhow, I then came back home here to Hickory and went immediately to the Social
Security Office to apply for my SSN, and had to wait there for about 1 1/2 hours
there, filled out the form and was told that it takes at least 6 weeks to process and
get my card, and was told that I cant work till I physically have the card in hand.

So here I sit waiting now for the little SSN card. I am also told that it takes
about 8 months for the interview here in Charlotte.

Hope this helps.

Jewel
