Default visiting the US whilst K1 in process - help!

Hi all..

Has any one got experience of entering the US to visit their fiance whilst their K1
is being processed? I called the US Embassy about it today and they were less then
helpful (or pleasant ). Any advice about what documents to take to prove I am coming
back to the UK?

Also any one know about US fiances coming to visit their UK fiances? Questions,
questions...I think I need a lie down..

thank you all

Gail

Dear Gail, I personally dont have experience of this, but I have read many sites from people who have. It is quite risky as I am sure you are aware to enter the US whilst your K1 is processing for the obvious reason that the Immigration inspector at the POE will need a lot of convincing that you are infact going to return to your home country at the end of your stay. I would advise you take proof of employment, bank account proof, rent or mortage agreement, just about anything you can to show you will return to your home country after you visit your hunny. Good luck.

Hi Gail I visited the US in january (at short notice, my fiance's mother was taken
ill) and all the customs official asked me was ... "now youre not going to be getting
married are you ?". It may be a good idea to take a letter from your employer
confirming that you are due back at work on a certain day, just to show if
problems do arise. As for your US fiance visiting the UK theres no problem as
far as we found, my fiance visited twice while we were waiting on our K1. Having
said that maybe the employers letter would once again be a good idea.

Hope this helps you some

Hi. First off, there is no restriction on the US fiance(e) going anywhere during the
K-1 process. As long as they have the money.

Second, for the foreign finace(e) to visit the US during the process they have to
show proof of ties to their country (i.e proof that they are going back). Things like
proof of employment, proof of residence, a current pay stub, proof of money in a
foreign bank, strong family ties (in writing), return airline tickets, etc. When my
girlfriend comes to visit me (since they are paranoid about us already) she gets
travelers' insurance for the period that she is staying.

You may not need any of that stuff, especially if you don't volunteer alot of
information when asked by the INS about the purpose of his visit, and you slip
through. But you may need ALL of it. It really depends on the INS agent you get, too.

Good luck!

Mike
