I am a Pakistani born USA citizen and plan to go to Pakistan to wed or
engage in November. The decision will revolve around the quickest way
to get my life-mate to USA. In any one's opinion, which is quicker:
get engaged in November in Pakistan, I come back to USA and apply for
fiance visa and then marry her her when she arrives in USA
OR
get married in Pakistan in November, apply for marriage visa and just
wait till she is approved for visa.
My objective is to get here as soon as possible. It does not matter if
the wedding is here in USA or in Pakistan. I have heard that fiance
visa is quicker but i have also heard that marriage visa is quicker!!
As for my background, i am a well established US citizen and she is
well educated, medical doctor, in pakistan. Will this have any
bearings on visa processing?
Thanks a MILLION in advance for all help.
Best Regards,
IK

Check out visajourney.com for lots of info about K-1 (fiance) and K-3
(spouse) visas.
There's a nice comparison of the differences between K-1 and K-3:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?pg=compare
And you can get an idea of how long it takes by checking other people's
timelines:

What would also play a roll is .. where do you live in US .. what service center would you be under?
We chose the K3 route because it is a multi-entry visa and I want to be able to travel back to Europe if either my kids or my mum need me.

There's a poster on visajourney currently saying that no Pakistani family would let their daughter leave the country unmarried (of course, that's a pretty broad brush and may not hold true for your girl).
