Hi,
I have my Green Card interview coming up on May 15th at the Newark office.
Has anyone been there for an interview? Can someone shed any kind of
information as to what to expect? I've heard several things that it could
be a very tough process and I've also heard that its only a formality where
you go in and they give you the GC on the spot, i.e. stamping of the
passport. My dilemma is that I used to live in New Jersey and now I live in
New York. My lawyer said that they might ask me where I live and when I say
Manhattan they could stop processing and transfer it to the New York office,
which would really suck after having come such a long way. Any information
would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know about Newark, but My Sister in Law had her green card interview in Tampa Florida, they moved 2 weeks before the interview, when at the interview, they were asked to confirm their address, when they gave their new address, the inspector, terminated the interview and told them the file would be transfered to Orlando, it took a year to get another interview

And if they don't ask and you are approved for the green card your card will be mailed the address in New Jersey that you used to apply for AOS. So either way you are screwed if your change of address request has expired at the Postal Service.
Yes, your attorney is correct. If they discover your change of state, your interview will be terminated and your case sent to Manhattan BCIS. The timeline at present is 18 to 24 months in Manhattan. Don't have a clue how they handle transferred files.

Be as pissed as you want. It was your responsibility to see that the change of address and request for change of venue be given to the BCIS to transfer your file. If it went the way you want it to go, there would be nothing to stop me from walking into Albany and saying I lived for the sake of easy filing and adjudication there (could rent a place for one month) when I lived in the NYC jurisdiction and returning to the Albany for the final interview while still living in the NYC area.

Ok just here me out guys.
What if he was to agree on the address that officer confirms (the old address that is)? He then goes throw the interview process and get his passport stamped? Then a week later he gets his congressmen on the phone and asks her to make sure that address change has been applyed? They will for sure ask for address trust me.
I advise no one to lie to INS Officer. Above is just a thought. What would happen if he was to do that?

who said anything about lying??? there's no way i would jeopardize my
status by lying about anything especially something as silly as an address
change. all i'm saying is that the amount of red tape that we have to go
through is ridiculous and i'm just venting frustrations.
that aside, does anyone else have any advice or can go through their
experiences with the green card interview, especially at the newark office?
thanks
