Default Tylenol & tummy upset side effects

Anyone had any experience of side effects of Tylenol.

I managed to hurt my back whilst visiting a ski resort at the weekend. I cant take ibuprofen so I bought some Tylenol. So then, not only do I have VERY bad back pain (sciatica) but I also have the splats and nausea. Oh they joy!

I checked the bottle and it didnt say that tummy upset was a side effect.

I have never taken it before.

Anyone know anything about this??

I don't think there's anything on the label but I asked my doctor about this he did tell me to always eat something with the meds so it wouldn't upset my stomach..

Hope you get start feeling better soon and I'm sure somebody will be along soon to tell you if there's a different med you could take..

Do you take any other medications? There are a few that can interact. Alcohol can cause problems too, but thats mainly in heavy drinkers or moderate but regular drinkers. It could also be an allergic reaction to the acetaminophen itself or one of the filler ingredients. I am a non medical/pharmaceutical person so this is not professional advice! Oh, one other thing. Nausea, diarrhea and vomiting are signs of an overdose, I'm guessing that you probably didn't do that though.

No - I only took 2 - first time of taking it. I do have asthma, but I only take the usual inhaler type things for this plus an antihistamine. I am NOT a heavy drinker (by UK standards anyway), just the usual couple of glasses with dinner.

Well actually, a couple of glasses of wine every day would actually put you in the at risk category for using acetaminophen, just. But that's more for longer term use and it would probably mean a slightly lower daily max than the recommendations rather than stopping it. 2 pills, not so much. Again, I am not a doctor or pharmacist!

Did you ever have the same problems with Paracetamol?
If not, well, Tylenol is the same thing.

There's a nasty bug going around this season.. I had my first Really Bad Cold/flu a few weeks ago with the same symptoms.

I'd highly recommend that you consult your doctor or nurse for advice regarding this matter. We aren't qualified to give advice in this area especially when you have a pre-existing condition. There are contraindications that exists between common medications that some aren't aware of. I know you are seeking interim advice for the moment but it's not going to do any good if it's not educated advice.

I say this because my sister is studying to be a pharmacists and I asked for advice on the situation and she told me not to give any because it's not wise to do so.

Agree. Two glasses of wine daily is more than the recommended limit. (2 glasses is usually close to 4 units) This means that you have an increased risk of gastritis - symptoms of which sound similar to what you have described.

Hope that you feel better soon.

I do agree with that. My posts are based on my experience with the drug, my issues in what I can and can't take and my curiosity in pharmacy which has lead to many hours of reading profession prescribing info for various drugs!

I believe it is aspirin based which might be causing the problem. I cannot take it either, I use advil, but then you cannot use ibuprofen. Call your pharmacist and ask them.

Well I wanted to give advice myself, seeing as I'm a pharmacist by proxy. I asked her just to get clarification and she slapped my hands. That meanie. Anyway, I also have a hobby of educating myself on medical issues because it's really cool knowing how the body works and stuff. I don't blame you. Just had to but my sister's two cents out there.

Tylenol is not asprin based. It has a different pharmacological agent that treats pain. Aprin and Tylenol have a different pharmacokenetics as well. Usually Tylenol is prescribed when asprin can't.
