Hi,
I filed my I-485 by April 2003.
I have EAD/AP and planning to goto my country by Jan 2005.
My wife will be leaving earlier by Dec 2004.
We gave our 2nd finger prints on oct 21, 2004.
SO if we get the I-485 approved before we leave to our country, is there some timeframe before which we should get the GC stamping.
Can we postpone it? If we get it approved while in our country how do we know. Is there any time limit on that.?
please let know.
thanks,
balsi

If your I-485 is approved before you leave, you should get the stamp get the
stamp prior to departure. If it gets approved while outside the US you will
be paroled in for deferred inspection during which you will be admitted as
LPR.

You should find out from the specific office. Policies vary on this. By
the way, when i got my I-485 approval, it said to go on a Wednesday or
Thursday to the San Diego office. Alas, it turns out the office actually
was open every day BUT Wednesday. So double-check what it says on the
approval notice.

Also note that the information on the approval notice is outdated nowadays.
You need 2 *passport* style photos. Also, you probably want to use Infopass
to set up an appointment. Some offices accept a limited number of walk-ins
per day. Regardless, Infopass is much easier and you will be in and out in
less than an hour.
